2015 is here! 2015 UFO List..... And January ALYOF Goals

My ButtonA Year of Lovely Finishes kept me moving along my goals in 2014.....  Most of my sewing was centred around my kids and some quilting.   Dance Costumes, Clothes, Halloween, Gifts....

I didn't keep up with the Quarterly Check Ins but did check in each month with my goals and finishes. And I posted on my blog!

Here were my 2014 Goals
  • Keep Sewing and Quilting -- I did this!
  • Work on marketing my longarm quilting services -- website created, got some jobs, both sewing and quilting
  • Finish some UFOs -- Best Yet, I don't think I created any quilting UFOs, might have found one or two more from 2013.... but didn't create any!  My kids have a WIP -- a quilt for me!

2011 In Review & 2012 Goals

2011 Sewing Resolutions

From my blog last December....
My goals for the upcoming year are very similar to the past few years
  • Make meaningful fabric purchases
for the most part I've purchased with a plan, sewn from stash... but haven't made the projects from all the fabric I purchased
  • Finish UFOs
Got 4 Quilting UFOs finished, 1 is partially completed
unfortunately I also created some new ones....

  • Start Gift Sewing Early
I didn't sew much for Christmas and was pretty good most of the year on this one
2011 Stash Report
I lost track mid year... I think I ended up about equal, as I needed to buy some larger pieces for the longarm...  But I have plans for them and they aren't just going into stash!

2011 UFO Completions
Hand Print Quilt Small Bags Started at a Quilt Class
Teacher Gift Quilt Pink & Purple Stars & Hearts

UFO Partial Completion
Its on the longarm!
My first completed project on the longarm
One of my UFOs is nearly 50% quilted... and one new project from the year is my pinwheel quilt - the first project I completed on the longarm....

And the best sewing of the year was completed by my "helpers"

Fresh Sewing Day2012 Goals
My goals for 2012

  • Sew something every week
  • Purchase with a plan
  • Learn to Longarm
  • Work on UFOs

Stash Report and Weekly Goals

Weekly Plans
This week I really would like to work on Quilting some projects and finishing a dress for my daughter.  The kids are also off school for Spring Break, so I'm not sure what I'll get done.

Stash Report
I got back to sewing this week and used most of the fabric I purchased in the USA for my St Patrick's Day Quilt.  I used most of the yellow, all of the dark green, half of the light green and all but scraps of the pot o'gold print....

I will need to purchase some cream fabric sometime in the next couple of weeks for a project.

Week 12 / 2011 (Mar 14-Mar 20)
Used this Week: 3.5
Used year to Date: 40.6m
Added this Week: 0m
Added Year to Date: 7.5 meters
Net Used for 2011: 33.1m

A successful 2010, and planning for 2011

  • 2010 Review

I posted my 2010 goals a year ago...
  • Sew from stash, with meaningful purchases
  • I did sew from stash, but don`t have a true sense of numbers as my journal is sadly out of date.  I did buy fabric to complete the quilts, but they were needed.
According to my not yet updated journal I`ve completed over 94 projects this year... but that doesn`t include those I made for Christmas gifts that I haven`t journaled yet...  I really need a new system of journaling -- one that I can keep up with!
  • Sew for me
  • I did some sewing for me - until I looked at the photos I didn`t think I finished much... but I finished 8 tops, 3 pairs of pants (not all shown), a nightgown, a dress and wrap.
  • Sew 3 quilts
I got one finished, started and finished a crib sized quilt and have two others much closer to completion, but they are still only as quilt blocks... Hopefully soon the blocks will form quilt tops, then the tops form quilts...  My kids are hoping these will be completed by their birthdays - which are coming up quickly.

  • Finish the works in progress
I did finish some of my UFOs and WIPs but really need to focus on this again...

Some other sewing...

Sewing for others... mainly my kids.  I did some alterations and tshirts for my husband too!
1. Swimsuits in action!, 2. A Tam for my daughter, 3. Hats for all, 4. A New Dance Costume

And in order to complete this, I will need to clean my sewing room :) and hopefully keep it clean

And as for this goal - totally missed this one!  It still needs cleaning (or is it that it needs cleaning again?

2011 Sewing Resolutions
My goals for the upcoming year are very similar to the past few years

  • Make meaningful fabric purchases
  • Finish UFOs
  • Start Gift Sewing Early
¸
Specific projects that I need to work on

  • Quilt 2 (for Jan 2011) & Quilt 3 (for February 2011)
  • Kilt (probably for fall 2011)
  • Jig & Hornpipe Costume for oldest daughter (for Summer 2011)
  • Swimsuit for me (for our trip to Disney World February 2011)

UFO Challenge 2011

Back in October I posted about Pat Sloan's UFO Busted - here is my list

So how did I do? And what is left as UFOs in 2011....

I did finish the Halloween Quilt, and my youngests quilt, but the rest of the UFO projects sit as UFOs.... I will divide my UFO list into a quilting list, and a garment sewing list.

Quilting:
  1. [March]  [Done!]Quilt & Bind Hand print quilt for dh
  2. [August] Rocking Chair Cushions for my mom
  3. Hand Bag for my mom
  4. [April] [Done!]  Small bag started at a quilt class
  5. Baby Quilt cut out years ago
  6. [January] [Top Done!] Quilt Top for my son (Quilt #2)
  7. Rag Flannel quilt
  8. [June][Done]Teacher Gift Quilt Blocks -- made into baskets
  9. [May] Gift for my grandmother with some fabric she strip pieced
  10. [February] [Done!] Quilt Top for my oldest daughter (Quilt #3)
  11. Finish my sons Quilt (UFO #6 above)
  12. and probably another one

Sewing

  1. Black Highland Dance Vest
  2. Shirt for me
  3. [February - Done]Tshirt remake for my husband
  4. Kilt for my oldest

My goal will be to complete 1 quilting UFO each month (but #1 & 2 will be competed in January and February as they are birthday gifts).  And I hope to complete 1 other sewing UFO every other month.  I may have a few more unseen sewing UFOs hiding in my sewing room...

Updated:  August 2011 with some completions...

Outlook for 2010

Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2010!

Sewing Stats for 2009... aren't updated. I have about 115 projects that I started, too many current projects in progress.... I did quite well on NOT PURCHASING fabric, but still came home with lots. My Mom, my MIL and a friend all passed on fabric to me.... I need to sort it to figure out what to keep. I am using some of it for muslins! At some point I might total this up... but tomorrow I am starting from scratch in my journal and will add as I go (might add a spreadsheet to help track as it will add for me)!

Evaluating my 2009 Goals

* Sew mostly from Stash
Mostly true... Most of the stuff I purchased this year has been used, or is sitting together with the 3 quilts I want to make.

* Sew for me
I did sew for me, but then started loosing weight faster than I could sew...

* Start Christmas sewing before Nov 1st
Kinda! But they weren't finished... the Kilt Making course took me off track.

I sewed for everyone in my family this year including my husband... I used my embroidery machine to turn stash fabric into gifts for friends (and the kids friends).... I purchased fabric with a purpose... I wish I'd had more time to sew but spent much more time on getting healthy and exercising that I didn't have much time left for sewing. 2009 was for my health, now that I'm healthier, I'm going to try and fit my crafts and sewing back into my routine.

2010 Goals
  • Sew from stash, with meaningful purchases

  • Sew for me

  • Sew 3 quilts

  • Finish the works in progress

And in order to complete this, I will need to clean my sewing room :) and hopefully keep it clean

Current Progress and Planning Ahead

Happy Canada Day!

Current Stats
As it is halfway through the year, I thought I'd figure out where I was on my sewing goals...

Yardage In27.6m
Yardage Out53.9m
Number of Projects Completed76
Mending or Alterations44

Of the Yardage in is 28m given to me from my mom and mil. So I figure I've done really well on my fabric budget this year only purchasing 9.6m!

Planning Ahead
I have a few projects on the go that I need to finish before moving forward with any large projects. The following are items that I have cut out or waiting to go:
  • Alter a dance costume to swimsuit
  • OD 3/09 #1 top in size 92
  • OD 3/09 Bert shorts
  • Triangle Bag for my mom (it was her 2008 birthday present)
  • Remake of a Ladies XL Tshirt into a Nightie
  • Embroidery on a RTW Sweater for my Mom
  • 2 Handprint Quilts for Father's Day (ok I know that's past, but my dad is out of town)

Then I'd really like to get ahead on holiday giving this year - and yes I mean starting to sew for Christmas! I'd like to sew Quilts for each kid! So that is 3 Quilts to start and finish this year...

  • Don't create anymore UFOs and finish some of those filling my sewing room.
MOSTLY! One of my current projects is getting close, but I just haven't had the time to finish it and its been months... I did complete 5 UFOs, one that was over 10 years old.
  • Sew for myself as well as my family
YES! Most months I sewed something for me.
  • Complete at least one project for my husband
NO! Oops... didn't sew anything for him - so sorry... still thinking of a project.
  • Organize my traced patterns

Stats for 2008

With only one month of sewing left in the year, I thought I should total my stats for this year... So far I have used 110.2m but bought 60m. I have completed 135 projects including 4 UFOS, and as of the end of November only had 4 projects on the go, although one is quickly becoming a UFO. Hopefully after Christmas I will finish the black Highland Dance Vest that is 50% complete.

Looking back at my goals set in my first post of the year, I haven't done too bad... The only thing I've failed miserably at is organizing all my traced Ottobre patterns. And I haven't sewn for my husband. Doubt I'll get something sewn before Christmas for him, but maybe...

Tonights projects completed:
  • 3 baby/toddler boy hats
