February`s Challenge UFO -- 100% Complete!

I`ve been working on a UFO from the Patchwork Times UFO Challenge this month. AND I`ve completed the large quilt! Its approximately 80" x 100" (I remember the perimeter was 363", that I calculated for binding!)

February's UFO Progress  -- QUILT DONE!

STASH UPDATE:

I leave tomorrow for Disney World and will be gone until after March 6th.  Here are both my stash reports...  I will be running Disney`s Princess Half Marathon on Sunday!


While we are in Florida, I will not be fabric shopping or sewing, so I can easily finish my reports for the next two weeks.  As for the following week, when we come home, I`m sure some fabric will jump into my van on the drive north from Seattle!

Quilt #3 - binding approximately 30% sewn on.
Quilt #2 - still needs quilting (got off track because my grandmother was admitted to the hospital)

I finished most of a bathing suit for myself on Saturday and finished the rest up this... I got the top (a UFO) and skirt (new project) made... today I finished the matching briefs for this...

Friday Night Sew In - Lots DONE!

I had a very productive Friday Sewing....

These are the projects I worked on

• Vest for youngest, using Ottobre Design 1/07 #22 sz 98 lengthened, with short sleeves
• Swim Bottoms for older daughter using Ottobre Downloaded Pattern
• Swim Top for my son using a hacked Ottobre Design  #3/10 35 sz 140
• Tshirt Remake for my husband (made it smaller), recut with KwikSew 
• Lycra Circle Skirt for me (self-calculated)
• Top for me using Ottobre Design 4/10  #29 sz 170
• Applied the binding to Quilt  #3

And an added bonus, in searching for some of the fabric I did do some cleaning of my sewing room.... A great productive Friday night!

Binding Update: The fabric I was originally going to use for the binding had a repeat of 2-3/4" so I wouldn`t be able to match as I wanted to cut out 2-1/4" without creating waste, nor did I have enough fabric to cut out the borders matching the repeats... I also thought of using it on the bias, but once again didn`t have enough... So dug through the stash found a 0.7m piece which was enough to cut out my 10 strips of 2-1/4" binding! YEAH!

These blocks were made from the Moose Quilts - Layer Cake Along but I didn`t like the way they fit into the quilt top, so I used them on the back. I like them here, much better than on the top. There were a few reasons I didn`t like them on the top - first, I decided to put the blocks on point (they don`t look right that way), and second, the colours weren`t quite right...

Quilt #3 - UFO Progress & Stash Update

Quilt #3 (February's UFO) Update:
This is my daughters birthday gift... its not finished. BUT my February UFO goal is met - to assemble the top and bottom layers of this quilt. This week I will layer it with the batting and then start quilting it.

I am thinking of straight line quilting on both the diagonals and vertical/horizontal. This will be similar to the other quilt I did with wavy quilting lines in the 4 directions. I think I want to stick to straight lines because of all the straight lines in this quilt.

I think the quilting of this fabric will go quickly as it is straight lines!

Yesterday I finished the top, and thought I finished the backing, but when I got home and laid them together, I realized that I'd forgotten to compare my final measurements of the two... the top was about ~6" longer than the backing! So I added another layer today.

So how did it end up too short?  I knew I needed it approximately 100" long...  I used the width of the fabric (which I approximated to be 45") and then I added a strip of 12" baskets.  So is 45"*2+12-Seam Allowances long enough?  NO!  Because the fabric wasn't quite 45" and my quilt is slightly longer than 100"!

And I didn't compare the two numbers, nor measure the final backing until I laid it on top of the quilt top to show my husband.  Oops!

Today I shared this with my daughter (and the rest of the family) - giving it to her at her birthday party. After being so sad since her brother got his 2 weeks ago, she was very happy today.  Sorry no pictures, I was holding the quilt and no one grabbed my camera.  I NEED to check with my mom or husband... hopefully someone got a photo of her with her quilt...

And on that note, I wish I was 8!  She got the following Fashion Studio for her birthday!  I wish I'd had one when I was 8...


BTW, the next projects I'm making are SMALL. And sure hope March's UFO challenge, has a quick and easy project (I have one that only requires binding... hopefully that one gets chosen!)

Quilt #2 (January's UFO) Update:

I started quilting this!  YEAH!  But only did some stitch in the ditch to anchor it all together.  Need to do some detail quilting...  Lots of details to quilt on this one!


Now back to the sewing room, to finish these two quilts! Actually I need to set up in the family room to quilt these, there isn't enough space to quilt these (both approx 80"x100").

Note 2:  Of the 4.5m of fabric I purchased this year, I have used nearly all of the 3m of pink fabrics purchased - one fabric I have less than a FQ, the other I might have a FE in about 5 or more pieces...  So I'm going to say its all gone - extras are in the scrap bin!  I did use a little white (1m), and haven't used any black yet (0.5m) - those were both bought to keep on hand, as I'd run out of them.
