New Ottobre Issue

I was going to try the cowl neck top from the new Ottobre, but the fabric I wanted to use was an old top that had a low neckline so I didn't have enough length. Since pattern #18 used the same front and back pieces I just cut out the other pattern.

Its simple to sew, but I will probably bind the arms & neckline if I were to make it again. Clear elastic & I don't agree... so I pulled it out.... I used my coverstitch and I'm not 100% happy with it - but its great from a distance, made out of an old tshirt so if it only lasts this summer, it will be fine.


Cowl Neck Top
I also wanted to try the Cowl Neck top from Hot Patterns that is for free download at fabric.com. After printing out the 22 pages and figuring out how to assemble them... this was actually painful as the labelling is so close to the edge that my printer cut it off! And I had to hunt down the size chart on the Hot Patterns website....

Fabric used is a light weight poly-lycra with a slight horizontal stripe in the knit. I am not terribly interested in tops with bands over my hips so I skipped the ribbing at the waist.

This top went together very quickly and is a nice lightweight top for the summer, or great for layering in the winter....



I have traced and cut out two other items from Ottobre 2/10 and have almost completed another pair of Jazz pants from 5/08 in capri length.

Wear Red for the Heart & Stroke Foundation!

Heart Shorts - Front

My 7yo wanted red shorts for Jump Rope for Heart Day at school supporting the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation. The kids were asked to wear red to school.... but she didn't have any red shorts or pants since she usually wears dresses.... So mom to the rescue. The main fabric is white baby cord, with velour red hearts, heart trim along the pockets and yoke, and heart fabric for the yoke and pockets.

I chose 02/05 #32 Safari Shorts and shortened them as she didn't want them to roll up. I also skipped the external waistband and just folded the elastic down. I did this because most patterns are too long in the rise for her. If I were to do this again, I would need to adjust the pockets for turning the top edge over with elastic -- the hand opening is a little small.

Using the instructions at otttobredesign.blogspot.com... I made this nightgown out of an old nightshirt. I used FOE for the back neckline, ruffle elastic along the front section and old bra straps off of a discarded bra.

Planning for Spring/Summer

I have started planning my sewing for Spring and Summer for me. I have chosen some patterns... now to dig through looking for fabric. I think I can make most of these from stash....

Highland Dancing Outfits

A new blouse
This blouse is based on Ottobre 02/04 #23. Princess seams removed, side seams straightened, used a back zipper instead of buttons, changed front neckline... (I did say it was based on... very loosely once I was done my hack!)




Highland National Outfit (or Aboyne)




Skirt

A FULL pleated skirt with velcro closure, with large hem to allow for growth. No pattern used.



Petticoat
A tiered skirt, with growth pleats and eyelet lower trim. No pattern used


Plaid

A square (or rectangle) of fabric with fringed edges... this is approximately 36x39" to sett




Blouse

03/03 #35, with added width to body and sleeve(this is to be fairly full), lowered front neckline and shortened sleeves




Vest

Another Ottobre HACK, based on Ottobre 01/08 #36 (Juliet Vest). Front Opening removed, CB zipper added, petals added, fully lined, No darts, removed back princess seams. And I have no clue if I followed the instructions, as I didn't even open the issue.







Have I mentioned recently on how I love the versatility of Ottobre for changing their patterns? It is wonderful!!! I love my Ottobre collection!
