Summer sewing....

My lonely blog... I have been sewing, just not completing anything quickly, nor taking pictures and posting the finished items.

The flowers were picked on the walk home from school. All are wild flowers or from my garden.

Yesterday I had a few daylight hours to sew as the girls were at Grampa's so I finished dresses for them.

The smaller dress is based on Ottobre 2/05 #3 without the petals, lengthened and done in a double layer of fabric (the peach is a cotton batiste). Its two dresses sewn together at the neckline and a ruffle hem added to the lower layer. The overskirt needs shortening...

The other dress is based on the tunic 4/07 #31 without the sleeves and tie. The skirt has also been lengthened.

Where did April go?

I haven't totalled up April's sewing stats yet, but numbers aren't high. I don't think I bought much fabric - but I did buy an embroidery machine :) As for sewing, I did complete a dance vest and a few small projects, but between weekends away, an out of town wedding and the dance competition - as well as sick kids I didn't get much done. One kid is still sick, but I did manage to get some sewing done tonight. I needed to prepare, tomorrow I'm showing my mil how to install an invisible zipper. So tonight I finished cutting out a dress for the youngest and completed the back section so its ready for zipper insertion.

I also worked on a pair of long shorts for ds... They were started in February as pants, but seeing as its now MAY I cut a few inches off them so they'll be long shorts. They are nearly finished - hemming and snaps.

And I did some machine embroidery - I bought some lace bookmarks from Embroidery Library and made a few up. They will be part of my mother's day gifts. As for my mom's gift, I had planned on sewing her a handbag, but that will only happen if I do an all night sewing spree on Saturday, which isn't in the plans. I do need to finish a beaded bracelet for my Gram before Sunday.

More Embroidery

Saturday evening when I stitched out the tooth fairy, I must have messed something up when I added the text to the same file. Today I stitched the fairy, text and pocket from 3 separate files and all worked and lined up properly!

I've also been working on pants for my son, with some embroidery on them. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish them. And started a pocket, with embroidery, for his water bottle for his Taekwondo gear bag.

Tooth Fairy Pillow Embroidery

My oldest daughter lost her first tooth today and she wanted a tooth fairy pillow. We decided to look for a fairy design on the internet and try it out with our new embroidery machine. We found one at sewterific.com. I don't know what I did wrong but the stitching didn't come out properly - there is a gap in the middle of it. She's happy, and has gone to bed ready for the tooth fairy....

I think I'll try writing this file to the card again and seeing if I can get it to work. (edited to add: I did restitch this and it worked properly.)
