Some emboirdery
As we are headed to Disneyland for Hallowe'en, I thought I needed something seasonal... So I took an old black shirt and added a pumpkin and ghost. The ghost is done in glow-in-the-dark thread.
A princess, a fairy and peter pan
Ottobre 3/08 #19 with sleeves added and 4 layers of skirts....
Bodice loosely based on Ottobre 3/08 #19, detail along the back zipper because I cut it too narrow trying to make it a little more fitted. Skirt is 14 petals with an underskirt. Shorts are using Ottobre 3/08 #16 (Daisy) pattern shortened...
Top is based on Otttobre 2/05 #29 (with modifications for woven - wider larger head and cut on sleeves) as I really wanted the collar style, shorts are based on 4/08 #24 with yokes attached to the bodice and no pockets. Belt, hat and tank top are self drafted.
And Hallowe'en....
First I must thank my husband for taking the kids out so I could get some sewing done this weekend.... Yesterday morning, he took the 3 kids to R's Taekwondo class, then they went onto complete their list of "chores" that involved hitting many stores on a SATURDAY. They went to Zellers, a dollar store, Michael's, Home Depot, and Fabricland. Yes! The 4 of them even went to the fabric store for me!!! What a wonderful family I have. They were out for over 4 hours, what peace and quiet.
So what did I do with my peace - sew Hallowe'en costumes while listening to Podasts!
This year I have Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). Tinkerbell is in pink, and her costume was designed by my 5yo and includes a short dress with petal hem and shorts. Peter Pan (my 7yo son) designed himself a shirt, shorts, belt, and dagger. Aurora has a ball gown, that uses more fabric than Tinkerbell's dress and is 4 sizes smaller!
All patterns were originally based on some of my recent creations - all Ottobre designs - although some were modified to fit my costume design specs as handed by my kids :) I love all the great patterns in Ottobre, that make it easy to create custom costumes...

A new fall sweater
For some reason my daughter is short on sweaters (compared the the many, many sweaters her older brother and younger sister have)...
So it was time to use some of the pink sweater knit in my stash that I received from a friend. The pattern called for satin bias tape, which I couldn't find locally so I ended up buying some yardage and making bias tape... A very quick project, even with the bias tape - which I don't normally like - and dislike slippery satin bias tape even more :)

A new housecoat
Yes I have been sewing recently for my son. I've also been making nighties for the girls - one is complete, the other is waiting at the serger.
Fleece Housecoat. I added seams down the sleeves and CB to use up some long strips of fleece I had leftover from some project... The belt, band and top of the pockets are a lightweight bug print knit. I really should have done the inside of the band in the fleece to give it more body, but its ok as is.

Bag for Band
My son has started learning the chanter (bagpipes) with the junior band at Simon Fraser University who are the 2008 World Pipe Band Champions.
He wanted a bag to take his chanter and books to class, so we looked at various bags available on the Internet and came up with a design and I made it for him the night before classes started.

Back to School Pants
OK... So school started a month ago and I'm finally getting into the routine... It has been a busy month sorting out ever changing schedules. Hopefully all class times are now set. All the activities have started: School, Preschool, Sparks, Beavers, 3 Dance classes, Chanter lessons and Taekwondo.
These are the pants my son wanted for back to school. The pants are Ottobre 4/08 #24 with design (and plus sized) modifications. My son wanted the green toggles with drawstring at the waist and ankles, so I added a faux drawstring at the waist and drawstring at the ankles. Also he wanted an extra pocket with the fish appliqué. Added green buttons to the back pockets to tie more green in, and green top-stitching. As to the sizing, I made the size that would match his height, and split each piece vertically (front & back plus yokes) and added extra width so they matched the width of the 2/05 plus sized pants that fit him.
