March Finishes -- ALYoF

I finished my goal -- Post Card Swap.

I did keep March's goal simple.... it was a crazy busy month.

The best part of the month was the AMAZING concert hosted by the SFU Pipeband! The Concert was great. Dancing Amazing. And Balding for Boney great fun and amazing participants! There are LOTS of photos on the SFU Pipeband Facebook page. The silent auction items I donated went home with Andrew's family!

Here are the Heather Jolley Highland Dancers with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band in Concert on March 28th at SFU Theatre.   For more information about the concert, or to donate, go to http://bccancerfoundation.com/events/... The concert was also livestreamed - you can see the rest at Pipe Up For Cancer Livestream

WIP Wednesday ~ Donation Items

My children are members of the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band the youth band associated with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band.

An SFU Pipe Band Piper is currently battling cancer, and the band is running a fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation. The concert is Saturday, and although sold out, you can watch on livestream.....
From the SFU Pipeband Facebook page:  We can now confirm the online live streaming will be a GO for the Pipe Up For Cancer concert on Saturday, March 28 starting at 6 PM PDT. It will be free to watch but donating at http://donate.bccancerfoundation.com/goto/pipeupforcancer is strongly encouraged.

There was a call out for items for a silent auction.    So I used some brand new (extra) tshirts from previous concerts or events.....

My 12yo will be dancing in the concert (in a pink kilt and black jacket).

A bunny from a 30th Anniversary Tshirt

A dinosaur from a Live in New York Tshirt

A tshirt bag... from 2 shirts!

And some sewing on the go.... I'm pattern testing.... Not finished yet.  Exterior done, but need to add lining.   All is going well with this, other than I haven't had enough time to get it done on time..... Using an old kilt and some navy twill......

Quilt guild sewing....

Flying Colours
Tonight is my local quilt guild's meeting.  This month our postcards are due for a postcard swap with another quilt guild in the province.   The theme is spring.....

I couldn't get inspired so I did a google search for spring quilts.... and found the quilt Flying Colours at HomeSpun.

I really liked the pentagram log cabin birdhouse.  Mine is scrappy, and foundation pieced onto tearaway stabilizer (that I left in the postcard).   After I finished the birdhouse, I thought it needed a bird, so I drew the bird on Steam-A-Seam 2 and appliqued it on.

My Postcard
We also have a Block of the Month lottery.....   Here is my block....   I haven't won yet... but maybe..... This was a fairly easy block to complete...  I found 2 matching green buttons for eyes.

March ~ A Lovely Year of Finishes Goal Setting

My Button
Design for the Embroidery
for prizes at the Championship
March!   Wow!  How did we get there already?

This month starts off busy with a big Highland Dance Competition on March 7th.  I'm responsible for all the trophies and prizes for this competition.   One of the prizes for this competition is embroidered blankets.  It was interesting working with a supplier to create these.... I will take a photo once they arrive.  And maybe a few comments about the process.  The artist in me struggled with this process.  As far as the process went, this was my least successful item I've arranged in 3 years.....   I'm sure they will look lovely.... but I did not enjoy the manufacturing process!!!!!   I didn't embroider them, I went through a supplier.

Some raindrops....
Then it is spring break.  My girls are taking a sewing class one morning of the two week spring break.  And we are headed out of town for a dance competition.  And dancing and

I need to get some quilting done.  That UFO that is hanging out on my frame must really be completed.... And I want to get at least one baby quilt done..... but I signed up for a postcard swap with my guild and need to get that done.....  I also have a blouse cut out for my 12yo to test a pattern.  I'd love to get that done.

So my March my goal is simple:   Complete the Post Card.  Anything else is bonus!!!!

I'm hoping to complete 2 baby quilts for friends....   I started!  I am using the Connecting Threads Rain Day Sampler.   And using the Baby Showers Quilt pattern from Moda Bake Shop.
