Butterfly Wings Quilt
by my 9yo daughter for her Grade 3 Teacher

The quilt back - if you look closely one butterfly has a missing wing....

This is the "end" she started with on the pantograph.  Very "square" butterfly wings.

With the school year quickly coming to an end, its time for some teacher gifts... And with only a few hours left before the gifts are needed, they were completed.

No more procastinating

With only 2 full schools days left of the school I thought I should get the teacher gifts made!  5 gifts needed....
Gift 1:  For my son's main teacher - a pillow made with a school tshirt in the middle COMPLETED

Gift 2:  A basket for my son's 2nd teacher COMPLETED, it will be filled with stickers, etc.

Gift 3:  Quilt for my oldest daughter's teacher.  She made the quilt, my job is to bind it.  Binding cut out.Gift 4:  Bag for my youngest daughter's teacher.  Using an old pair of jeans, and a school tshirt, and some teacher print quilting cotton.  Cut out, pocket added, need to sew lining to fabric.Gift 5:  Pillow for the Music Teacher & Librarian Using Bookish from Connecting Threads.  I have two layouts for the front of the pillow, which one?  Backing, with zipper installed, is ready to go!

Look who's at the longarm....

My 9yo is taking her first go at using the longarm.  The quilt is a disappearing 9 patch designed by her, for her teacher.  We have 1 week left to finish this.  She did all the stitching, I just pinned, cut, trimmed, and loaded the longarm....

FNSI Update

Sorry no photos... but I did get two UFO tops finished for my youngest daughter and a pair of underwear for my other daughter...

A fairly productive FNSI especially with a headache!

Dancing -- Costumes....

At the end of April I was asked by my daughter's dance teacher to make a couple of body suits for the older dancers as they headed to New York for a concert with the SFU Pipe Band.  I made these costumes with Stretch Velvet using KS 3331.  I made both a size medium and a small, and raised the back neckline some, as they didn't want it too low.  Also I eliminated the waist seam (no attached skirt) and used the elastic length provided as I was told it would fit.  This project had a tight turn around... fabric delivered Saturday, pattern and style determined Sunday, first fitting (no sleeves) on Monday and body suits delivered and final fitting on Tuesday.

My older daughter has been attending classes with both these dancers recently and is really working hard to learn from these beautiful dancers.... I have made a number of her costumes... her kilt & vest, her aboyne, her jig costume and significantly altered her hornpipe costume. My youngest currently is only wearing a blouse I made her as she's wearing a loaner vest and a kiltie from before I knew how to make kilts.  I've gotten a number of complements on how well her kilt swings....

Some progress

I didn't feel like sewing today, or doing anything for that matter....  But I loaded a backing, some batting and a top... The pantograph was already on the machine... so the quilt is now off the machine and waiting for binding.
Quilting was with  "Lemon" yellow 100% Cotton Essentials thread from Connecting Threads.  I like the tread, but it is linty, as is the flannel backing from my guild.  Any chance I can get my guild to cut backings a little longer?  Once washed the backing was EXACTLY the width I needed... not easy to use on a longarm.

Trying to get things done

I have a post or two in the works, but am still working on the photos... I did complete 2 Preemie Donation Quilts for my guild, a baby gift for a friend (it was a UFO) and some other small projects.
And I scored at a "fire" sale, a local store whose building was burnt out, was auctioned to a local liquidator.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for my bank book) I didn't hear about the sale until just this past week.  I managed to get 5 Accuquilt Go dies, and a ruler for under $35.  Two of the dies were on my wish list...  I also got the die with 6 - 2" squares on it.  I figured that would be great for scraps!
