January ~ A Lovely Year of Finishes

This month has been busy with Robbie Burns activities......And I played with Heat Transfer Vinyl and my Silhouette Cameo.

Today was my quilt guild sew in.  I went and worked on one of my quilting UFOs......  This one was the Dresden Quilt as you go.   And all 4 blocks are now quilted.   They now need to be assembled into a full quilt -- I need to read how to do this. (UFO List #10 from 2011)    For reference, beige variegated is Aurifil Creme Brule (4150).

This was very hard on my hands.   Near the end I took a break and instead of figuring out how to put it together, I cut out some strips for a Preemie Quilt for the February Guild Challenge.

And I have another quilting UFO on my frame.  Thread is found (it was put away, as it had been off the frame for so long).  Quilt is loaded and stretched out ready to go. The vertical boarders and sashing has been quilted previously.   I am now going to work on the horizontal borders and sashing, as well as the blocks.   (UFO List #4 from 2012).

Here is my Janary Goals and UFO List, I wanted to complete the quilting on one UFO, and I got that done and started quilting a second.

Old kilts and HTV

My  first attempt
Silhouette Vinyl on Wool
Silhouette HTV on Cotton

So I have been playing with an old kilt making Silent Auction items for my kids band..... They are having their fundraiser on Saturday evening....

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
My first attempt was less than successful.  The vinyl was just garbage.  It was from the silhouette starter kit!   The green HTV I'd used on Sunday looked great, but this looked awful.  I even tried on a piece of white cotton in case it was the wool....  It was better on the cotton, but not really pretty as it was still blotchy :(

Before cutting out of HTV, I cut the piper out of contact paper to ensure the design would cut cleanly.  My husband nicely created this image for me!

Today I called a local supplier and they said to come down to the warehouse.... I got a tour, and talked to 3-4 employees.  I was going to buy some, but then because the minimum order was $50, I asked if they had a sample.   The sample packs were out of black, so one employee went down to the warehouse and got me an end cut.  Got a 22"x20" piece.  Great for testing!

First I tested on cotton, then on wool with a simple design.  This allowed me to test the cutting and how well it adhered to both wool and cotton.

Then I used the test musical note as the backing on a zippered bag.   And cut out and pressed the piper onto the wool.  I will try and make this one into a pillow for Saturday's silent auction!

2015 is here! 2015 UFO List..... And January ALYOF Goals

My ButtonA Year of Lovely Finishes kept me moving along my goals in 2014.....  Most of my sewing was centred around my kids and some quilting.   Dance Costumes, Clothes, Halloween, Gifts....

I didn't keep up with the Quarterly Check Ins but did check in each month with my goals and finishes. And I posted on my blog!

Here were my 2014 Goals
  • Keep Sewing and Quilting -- I did this!
  • Work on marketing my longarm quilting services -- website created, got some jobs, both sewing and quilting
  • Finish some UFOs -- Best Yet, I don't think I created any quilting UFOs, might have found one or two more from 2013.... but didn't create any!  My kids have a WIP -- a quilt for me!

A Lovely Year of Finishes 2014 Review!

Wow!   We made it to the end of the year!   And I completed every month!

Most of my sewing was either for my kids or with my kids.   I did complete 2 projects for others.  And a number of donation quilts to the NICU at the local hospital.  They are donated through my quilt guild.
