Quilt 2 with Borders

This is the quilt I'm finishing as my sons 10th birthday present. When I gave it to him, only one of the borders had been completed. Today I added the rest of the red border, then the light border and the dark border. I am quickly running out of fabric! The dark blue fabric only has a few strips left of it... some stretches of 2" and 2.5" strips that I will use on the backing... The biggest difficulty was taking a picture as this quilt is 79"x106"...

Now to piece the backing and make the label... then to baste... and it will be quilted next weekend when I head to the craft day at our school.

The main fabric for the backing is another dark blue fabric I bought specifically for the backing, but I am about 0.4m short to just piece the two together, so the backing has now been cut into 4 sections. I need to make a strip of 4"x110" and two strips of 11"x 42" to piece together the backing... I know I have some of the light blue sky, the light blue used for the border, some grey, some yellow, and a few small pieces of the reds, and nautical prints...

Wow!

I started the 2nd border... but its not finished... and have 2 more borders to go!

The unfinished quilt was a hit!  He loved it and everyone appreciated the work that has already gone into it.  And is anxiously awaiting its completion...


ETA: This quilt is currently approximately 80 x 95" and I'm adding another 6-8" of borders... I can't remember the width of the red border at the bottom, and then a .75" light blue border, then a large dark blue border, need to figure out how much fabric I have before I know how wide it'll be....

Top has been pieced and squared... Love the straight lines of the hardwood floors to square this up against... that and painters tape!

This is the UFO I'm finishing this month. The quilting won't be finished this month. But the top is pieced, borders are started and hopefully the layers basted together before the end of the month...

Its for my son turning 10 on Monday. And I presented him with the unfinished quilt top tonight. Tomorrow I will work on the borders and hopefully finish them up. Then to figure out the backing....

together!  And I have a quilt top!!

I am making progress, but since a certain birthday boy reads my blog, there will be no pictures until Saturday night... The quilt won't be quilted but the top should be finished and with luck the backing too...

Because today was the Band's big fundraiser of the year, a Robbie Burns dinner, I didn't have a "Friday Night" to sew in... I pretended I was in Russia or Finland where it was nighttime when I sewed today... The quilt was pieced together, taped to the floor and squared off, and had 1+ of the borders applied.  I have started attaching the 2nd border and am debating what to do for the last border.  I might do a pieced border... and the save my largest leftover for the binding...

Here is the finished table topper that will be up at the silent auction at tonights Robbie Burns dinner.  It was part of a basket, so wasn't showcased.  I was a little disappointed to see that, but realize an 18" round table topper by itself doesn't look all that impressive.  When I left, the basket of items was at $50...

And here is my sewing area at our beach home... sure wish my sewing area was as clean and tidy here...

This is a corner of my dining room and I recently restructured it with the old IKEA computer desk.  The old desk was a door, but it was hollow and used old table legs that made it bounce and wobble!  Now a nice and sturdy sewing area...

Quilt Updates

I have been sewing, and am nearing the time to piece Quilt #2, but sorry I can't show photos... My son has found this blog (he's turning 10!) and so no more previews of his birthday present... Nor can I show you the blocks I've worked on for Quilt #3 (for his sister).

BUT I can show you one of a table topper that is nearly finished. Just need to finish hand stitching the binding down. This will be donated to the Pipe Band for their Silent Auction. I hope to have it completed for tomorrow night to hand over...

I used my new AccuQuilt Go! And it was lots of fun! What a great way to cut curved pieces... The only thing I wish is that the shapes weren't so close together on the die, so I could cut out more of one without wasting fabric...

After laying this out, I need to add some sashing between blocks, finish my mariners comapss and make 4 more stars... And make my 2 lighthouse blocks.

New Year`s UFO Busting (Quilt #2)

These anchors were started over a year and a half ago and were the first blocks I started for this quilt. These were fiddly to do, but I do like the way they`ve turned out...

Here is my stack strips cut into squares ready to assemble this block.  This is for a different quilt than the other blocks I`ve done for the Moose on the Porch Quilts Layer Cake Along.  But thought this might work quite well for my sons Quilt (Quilt #2)....

I might also do a set of 4 of these up for my daughters quilt too (Quilt #3)

One set of these borders is trying for a waves effect. I think it will look great once on the quilt, but I`m not sure where on the quilt they should go... I think I have enough for two horizontal stripes of these... the plain blue and white stripes, might go between some blocks, or in some blocks...


The UFO Challenge on Patchwork Times has us working on Project #6... Since I need to finish Project 1 before January 24th, I`m swapping numbers 1 and 6!
